SUPPORT US AS A MARSHAL

Volunteer

So, if running is not your thing, but a day in the fresh air supporting and enjoying your local community is, then we’d LOVE to hear from you. If you need a bit more convincing, then please read on!

You don’t have to be a runner to take part in Hook’s annual running extravaganza. An event like this, which can attract up to 1,200 participants, requires a well-oiled machine behind the scenes to make things run as smoothly as they do. We could not hold the event without the generous help of around 120 volunteers. Our marshals play a critical part in this, and we are always looking for people to help us and the runners on the day.

Our lovely Marshals will be all around the courses to help, guide, and cheer you on. Click on the image and a larger version will open in a new tab..

You will get fed and watered

All marshals helping at the Hook Fun Run & Road Races will receive a goody bag which includes a drink and snack.

You will feel the love!

Runners love (and need) marshals, and the bigger the smile the better! When a runner feels like they have had enough and they have left the crowds behind, the next marshal they see may well be the reason they keep going.

You will enjoy a lovely morning in the fresh air!

Whilst glorious weather cannot be guaranteed, a lovely sunny morning is highly probable in the month of May. It has been said that fresh air is helpful for digestion, lowering heart rate, increasing immunity, boosting energy levels and stimulating brain function. Who knew?

You will feel the buzz!

A lot is said about the runner’s high, the endorphin kick that a runner experiences after they have been running for a little while. The great news for marshals is that this is also recognised – kind, helpful gestures also release endorphins, sometimes known as the helper’s high! You need this in your life.

You will look lovely and feel great in fluorescent yellow!

A recent study has shown that wearing bright colours releases dopamine, the feel-good hormone responsible for improving our mood. You don’t get much brighter than fluorescent yellow.
